ABOUT US

Nu Chi Chapter supports the National Chapter by promoting the Mission of Chi Eta Phi Sorority, Inc. by following our motto-“Service for Humanity”.  Our mission is to provide service and to elevate the plain of nursing in programs that focus on health promotion, disease prevention, leadership development, mentoring retention, and scholarships to nursing students.   The purposes of our organization are to:

          Develop a Corp of Nursing Leaders

          Encourage continuing Education

          Have a continuous recruitment for nursing and the health professionals

          Stimulate a close and friendly relationship among members.

          Develop working relationships with other professional groups.

The current President of Nu Chi is Laura Harps, MSN, RNC, CPNP.  Laura works as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner in a group practice at Northeast Neighborhood Health Clinics (NEON).

HISTORY

Nu  Chi Chapter of Cleveland, Ohio –in the “Mighty Middlewest”, was the fourth chapter charted on May 28, 1966 with eleven charter members.  Nu Chi continues to follow the mission and purpose of our founders of the National organization, through the encouragement of nursing students through mentoring and scholarships.  We promote education for our members by providing educational speakers at our monthly meetings and awarding CE’s. 

Nu Chi networks with various community and National Organizations to provide and enhance health promotion and disease prevention. Some of the organizations are the American Heart Association, The American Cancer Society, Muscular Sclerosis Society, Sickle Cell Anemia, MOTEP, and the Minority Health Alliance.  We participate in numerous health fairs and screenings at many local churches including Affinity Baptist, Liberty Hill Baptist, and Corinthian Baptist.  We participated in the Great Smoke out of 2000 and the yearly walk for Breast Cancer.

Nu Chi has 45 active members who are aggressive in promoting health awareness for everyone, but particularly women and minorities who are at greater risk for health disparities and complications.  We will soar to new heights on the wings of our Jewels (founders) and under the leadership of our National President.

On October 27, 2001 we chartered our first Beta Chapter of undergraduate nursing students at Akron University in Akron, Ohio.
